Dude of the day

Sanjaya Malakar should be the dude of the season let alone the dude of the day. He has somehow managed to squeeze his way through every elimination round of "American Idol." He has won the hearts of America and somehow even managed to make Simon laugh. Every week he surprises us with a new look he definitely knows how to entertain the American public, it may not be with his vocals but he is definitely doing something right because he is still going strong on "American Idol."

"Idol" makes no sense!

"American Idol" is starting to get a little bit ridiculous, people who can sing are getting voted off and people who are somewhat awful singers but look pretty get to stay? What is America coming to, the whole show seems like it could be fixed for Sanjaya Malakar. It is truly astonishing that this kid is still on the show, I mean he is cute and a little nutty, and as we all know he is definitely not afraid to alter his look. Unfortunately the boy CAN'T SING! Last night one of the best performers on the show, Gina Glocksen, got sent home. She had an amazing voice but had a rock chic look. I guess that was not the look American wanted for its next "American Idol." Sanjaya's pony hawk is a much better alternative! I don't get it...... Let's see what other talented kid gets voted off next week's show.

Recipe of the day

Today's episode of "30 minute Meals" is all about the tastes of Havana. This is a Cuban twist on American favorites. Mojito Mashed Sweet Potatoes, is definitely an inventive version of classic mashed potatoes. It is a way to "eat your drink." Everyone has heard of the popular drink mojito, well this version of mashed potatoes has all the flavors of the classic drink. Sweet potatoes are mashed up with rum, mint, and brown sugar. It is almost a dessert but it is a wonderful side dish for Cuban Sloppy Joe's. This sandwich is a take on the classic Cuban meal (RopaViejos.) ground meat is mixed up with green olives, tomato sauce, coriander, chili peppers, and cumin. It sounds weird but It promises to be delicious. When you think about it how bad can spiked mashed potatoes be? All of the ingredients needed for this meal may seem a little foreign to you, but they can all be found in the regular grocery store. It is the weekend, instead of going out and spending a lot of money on a meal like this invite some friends over and try to make it at home. it is easy and exotic. Enjoy!

The ban is over

The Associated Press took a stand. They decided to do an experiment. For one week they attempted to ban all news about Paris Hilton. Well the ban ended last week when Paris got ticketed for driving with a suspended license. This was not breaking news by any means, but it meant a lot for the Associated Press. The ban was over, they broke when they wrote a 3oo word article about the incident. They wanted to see how long the ban would last, the intention was to only do it for a week but they did not even make it that long. They were trying to take a stand. There is so much going on in the world but some people are more interested in celebrity news, with stories of Paris being at the top. I admit it is a lot more fun to read stupid crazy stories about other people than it is t hear about people dying or the weather. It is American pop culture and it is fascinating, you can't help but get hooked. Time to go read UsWeekly. LOL!!!

High School student gets harrassed

A Long Island high school students family has filed a $5million dollar civil law suit claiming that their son has been harassed through racial text messages and slurs put on his locker. The family claims that their son who is 1 of 5 African American students among 950 piers has been harassed since last April. They are filing a suit now because they have put in many complaints but the school has done nothing about it. Their son Brian Orr, who is a freshman at Miller Place High, has had graffiti on his locker and has been in fights after his football practices. The family claims that this is causing him a lot of distress to the point where he is forced into the hallway to fight. He is such a young man and should not be faced with this type of abuse. The family is filing the civil law suit in hopes that this will help his son, and other families that may be going through the same problems. For more information on this story click here.
